FAQ: Will 3D printing replace traditional manufacturing?

No.

3D printing is good for making many different types of parts, and very effective for certain specific applications. Many industries are finding that 3D printing is replacing traditional manufacturing for specialized applications, but the traditional methods will always have advantages in their respective areas. Injection molded parts will always be cheaper in mass quantities. CNC parts will always be stronger. Laser cutting will always be faster. 3D printing is another tool in the manufacturing toolbox, not a replacement.
