FAQ: Can 3D printing filament go bad?
All 3D printing filament absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. PETG and Nylon absorb moisture faster than most materials while ABS and PLA absorb moisture much slower. To combat this, 3D printing filament ships in air tight packaging with desiccant inside the bags. When storing filament after opening, be sure to place it in a sealed container or bag. If you print with a lot of PETG and Nylon, consider investing in a filament dryer. Learn more in our care and storage article.
